THOMAS A. EDISON was Chairman of the Board of Thomas A. Edison, Inc.; CHARLES H. WILSON, WILLIAM H. MEADOWCROFT
and
HENRY F. MILLER
were members of the
Board of Directors. Thomas Edison is credited with inventing the phonograph in 1877
, but he paid little attention to the invention (which he later said was his favorite) for ten years before making improvements to the initial model. In the decade between 1910-1920, the phonograph became a mass medium for popular music.
In the 1920s, many companies, including Thomas A. Edison, Inc., worked on improving the quality of the recording.
However, the presence of radio (which provided free music) in the mid 1920s, combined with an economic depression, caused phonograph sales to decline and
Edison disbanded his phonograph business in the late 1920s. Three items.
