RARE - Auto 100, “World's Greatest Car Collection” automotive topical stamp collection.
To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Automobile, a group of six English-speaking nations (Grenada, Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Bequia & Union Island, and Tuvalu) assembled a stunning collection of official postage stamps featuring automobiles. This collection is the most comprehensive collection of car stamps ever issued. It commemorates the most important and historic road and race cars ever built, the designers, the racers, and manufacturers from around the world, and was entitled ‘The World’s Greatest Car Collection’.
Introduced in 1984. the stamps were available from the Stamp Collectors Society of America until their discontinuation in 1990.  Each month the subscribers to the original collection received 24 Stamps, one or two photograph cards, and one or two profiles with an invoice for .50 and with a “Stamp Collectors Society of America” letter announcing the next set of 24 stamps. Each shipment featured additional information about cars, designers, racers, manufacturers, etc.
Some of the makes included: Ferrari, Duesenberg, Bugatti, Aston Martin, Lola, Ford, Lotus, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Shelby, Jaguar, Daimler, Lamborghini, Pierce-Arrow, Brabham, Peugeot, Monteverdi, Chevrolet and many, many more!  Lots of unusual makes as well.
This is not the complete set,
but it does include the first 276 pages of the set, with 2 stamps placed in their respective mounts in each page of the book, 552 stamps total.  No missing stamps or pages from Page 1 through 276. Stamps are in unused/mint condition. I carefully spot checked a few, and they were never hinged.  Binders and pages are in near mint condition and were provided exclusively to subscribers.   Each page provides a detailed description and specification of the car depicted on the stamps.  Each book includes an index by make and model.  There is also a section devoted to biographies of famous drivers, designers and manufacturers plus 23 postcard-sized photo’s of noteworthy cars.
Text is printed in Swedish.
I purchased this item in an auction.  I do not know its history.  It’s really very cool.
This is not a complete set, but nearly so.  I believe the complete set included 306 pages.
