    Notable Features
    :
These earrings were skillfully handmade during the Georgian era
Composed of carved ebony wood in an oval and a scalloped motif
The wood was carved and inlaid with 22k rose gold leaf
The gold leaf adorns floral and foliate motifs, as well as an undulating linear design that follows the scalloped shape of the earrings
A .925 sterling silver wire was also inlaid in the wood, serving as a curling vine and stem motif for the flowers
With the gold providing beautiful shine that contrasts with the matte wood, these rare earrings are impossible to miss
Finished with .925 sterling silver shepherd's crook backings for secure wear on pierced ears
    Damage
: Age appropriate wear. There is some wear to the gold leaf and areas where the gold appears to be missing from the wood. The sterling silver wire is coming out of its inlaid position in the wood in one area; this can easily be repaired by your local jeweler. There is also light oxidation in some areas on the gold. In addition, these earrings could use a gentle cleaning to remove grime in a few places. The price has been reduced to reflect this.

    The History
The Georgian era is known for its hand-crafted designs, which were heavily influenced by world exploration. A few signatures of this era were high karat gold, cameos, chatelaine accessories, foil-backed stones, rivière necklaces, memento mori, and mourning jewelry, and rose and mine cut diamonds. While the jewelry from this era began to see designs from all over the world, jewelry from abroad was still very expensive to acquire due to sea travel. Between age and difficulty of acquirement, pieces from the Georgian era are amazing and rare historical finds.
Ebony is a black hardwood native to Sri Lanka, India, parts of Africa, and Indonesia. This beautiful hardwood is dense and durable, making it an ideal material to use in furniture, sculpture, household wares, and jewelry. It is one of the most expensive woods because of its uniqueness and high demand. Ebony has a rich history, being revered in Ancient Egypt for its beauty and mystery and used in the handle of Samurai swords; it is still a symbol of power, protection, and balance in many cultures today.
